Community Members,
We have developed a plan to make up the hours of instruction our students have missed over the last few weeks due to weather.

Starting on February 25, 2019 thru the end of the school year, we will be starting school 20 minutes earlier than our normal time. School will start at 8:00 AM at both the elementary and high school. Breakfast will be served at 7:45 AM.

Bus pick up times will be 20 minutes earlier. Bus drivers will communicate with specific families if there are changes. School will continue to be released at 3:30 PM for the high school and 3:20 PM for the elementary.

We will also be having school on the following dates:
Monday, February 18, 2019
Friday, March 8, 2019
Tuesday, April 23, 2019
Wednesday, May 22, 2019
Thursday, May 23, 2019
Friday, May 24, 2019 – 11:00 dismissal – Last day of school for students

Thank you for our patience through this challenging time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 641-224-2525.

Our Chemistry has been learning about chemical reactions and stoichiometry. Today they did a 2 part lab.
Part 1 was decomposing Potassium Chlorate to produce liquid Potassium Chloride and Oxygen Gas : 2 KClO3 (s) → 2 KCl (l) + 3 O2 (g)

Part 2 was using the oxygen released for the combustion of fructose (sugar in the gummy bear) : C6H12O6 (s) + 6 O2 (g) → 6 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l)

When a combustion reaction happens, we observe the production of gas, heat, sound, and light. Hence we had a screaming gummy bear that combusted (like a slow explosion)
